Research & Analysis
Philippine Data Centre Industry ·
The Philippines is positioning itself as an emerging destination for digital infrastructure investment. As demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services develops across Southeast Asia, data centres are becoming an increasingly important part of the region's infrastructure landscape.
Industry projections point towards significant capacity expansion in the Philippines. According to reporting by The Philippine Star, the Data Center Operators of the Philippines (DCPH) projected an increase from approximately 150 MW to 473 MW by 2028.
However, expanding data centre capacity involves more than constructing new facilities.
Infrastructure readiness matters
The Philippine Board of Investments has highlighted power availability, grid reliability, renewable energy access and workforce readiness as important considerations influencing digital infrastructure investment.
These considerations are particularly relevant to facilities that must maintain reliable operations while supporting increasingly demanding digital workloads.
Growth also requires wider economic capability
Reporting on Moody's Ratings' assessment introduces another important perspective: data centre construction alone may deliver limited economic benefits without improvements in supporting infrastructure, domestic supply chains and workforce capability.
This raises an important question for the Philippines: how can the country prepare not only to accommodate new data centre investments, but also to develop the people and supporting industries needed to sustain them?
DCAA's perspective: Building the workforce alongside the infrastructure
At Data Centre Academy Asia Inc., we believe workforce development should form part of the country's broader preparation for digital infrastructure growth.
Developing data centre capability involves more than technical equipment. It requires professionals with knowledge across design, operations, risk management, compliance and the practices needed to support mission-critical environments.
As an EPI Authorised Training and Audit Partner in the Philippines, DCAA supports access to internationally recognised data centre training and certification programmes, alongside local training coordination and professional development support.
Developing people. Strengthening organisations. Building a Digital Philippines.
