ANSI/TIA-942 Audit & Certification

ANSI/TIA-942 Site / Facilities Certification (DCCC)

Validate your completed data centre facility against the applicable ANSI/TIA-942 requirements through design review and physical site assessment.

About DCCC

Validate the Completed Data Centre Facility

TIA-942 Site/Facilities Certification (DCCC) confirms that the data centre facility within scope has been physically inspected for conformity against the applicable requirements of the TIA-942 Standard for the intended Rating level.

The assessment includes a review of relevant design documentation together with an on-site inspection of the areas covered by the TIA-942 Standard.

TIA-942 Site/Facilities Certification is valid for three years, subject to the applicable surveillance and recertification requirements.

What Is Assessed?

Four Assessment Categories

Architecture

Site location, building considerations, fire safety, physical security and related architectural requirements.

Electrical

Electrical infrastructure, power distribution, redundancy and supporting systems.

Mechanical

Cooling, environmental systems and associated mechanical infrastructure.

Telecommunications

Telecommunications infrastructure, cabling and connectivity requirements.

Certification Lifecycle

Maintaining DCCC Certification

01

Initial Certification

The facility undergoes the applicable documentation review and physical on-site conformity assessment for certification against the intended ANSI/TIA-942 Rating level.

02

Year 1 & Year 2 Surveillance

Surveillance audits are required by the end of Year 1 and Year 2. Depending on changes to the certified facility, surveillance may involve self-declaration, remote validation or, where required, an on-site inspection.

03

Year 3 Recertification

By the end of Year 3, the data centre must undergo a recertification audit to maintain its TIA-942 Site/Facilities Certification.

ANSI/TIA-942 Rating Levels

Understand the Four Rating Levels

TIA-942 describes four rating levels in which data centres can be classified. Detailed specifications are given in the standard.

Rated-1: Basic Site Infrastructure

A data center which has single capacity components and a single, non-redundant distribution path serving the ICT equipment. It has limited protection against physical events.

Rated-2: Redundant Capacity Component Site Infrastructure

A data center which has redundant capacity components and a single, non-redundant distribution path serving the ICT equipment. It has improved protection against physical events.

Rated-3: Concurrently Maintainable Site Infrastructure

A data center which has multiple independent distribution paths serving the ICT equipment. From a conformity point of view, it is acceptable to have one distribution path serve the ICT equipment with the second distribution path to be on standby for maintenance purposes. However, most data centers use both distribution paths on a continuous basis. The data center is required to be concurrently maintainable meaning that each and every capacity component including elements/components which are part of the distribution path, can be removed/replaced/serviced on a planned basis without disrupting the ICT capabilities to the End-User. It has protection against most physical events.

Rated-4: Fault Tolerant Site Infrastructure

A data center which has multiple independent distribution paths serving the ICT equipment which are all active. The data center allows concurrent maintainability and one (1) fault anywhere in the installation without causing downtime. The data center must be capable to automatically detect a fault, automatically isolate the fault and to automatically continue operation. It has protection against almost all physical events.

Note:

The outcome of the Rating levels defined by TIA are similar to the outcome of the Uptime Tier levels i.e. both Rated-3 of TIA and Tier-III of Uptime are both defined as being a Concurrent Maintainable data center.
